Ballarat and its surrounding areas host several wind farms, including the Waubra Wind Farm, Mount Mercer Wind Farm, and Lal Lal Wind Farm. These wind farms collectively contribute significant amounts of renewable energy to the national grid.

• Waubra Wind Farm: Located northwest of Ballarat, Waubra Wind Farm is one of the largest in Australia, consisting of 128 turbines with a total capacity of 192 MW. It has been operational since 2009 and supplies clean electricity to approximately 138,000 homes annually.

• Mount Mercer Wind Farm: Situated about 30 km south of Ballarat, this wind farm consists of 64 turbines with a combined capacity of 131 MW. Since its commissioning in 2014, it has played a key role in reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

• Lal Lal Wind Farm: Comprising two sites, the Yendon and Elaine sections, the Lal Lal Wind Farm features 60 turbines with a total capacity of 228 MW. This wind farm further strengthens Victoria’s renewable energy portfolio.
